The Ocala Culinary Festival is delighted to partner with the Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA) for a second year to create its second official poster for the festival. Original works of art, from artists who are residents of Florida, will be accepted in the design contest. Artists are encouraged to consider in their work the unique characteristics common to north central Florida and representative of the Festival’s love for all things epicurean.
Last year’s poster competition produced some lovely concepts, but ultimately the winning concept belonged to artist, Maggie Weakley. The inaugural poster was well received and we expect it will become a collector’s item in the years to come by those who support the Ocala Culinary Festival. Festival organizers encourage artists to provide fresh new designs for the 2018 poster.
Entry into the competition is free. All submissions must be delivered as concepts to the Marion Cultural Alliance, 23 SW Broadway Street, Ocala, FL 34471 or submitted via email to [email protected] no later than 5 pm Friday, June 30, 2017, along with the application that can be downloaded at www.ocalaculinaryfestival.com. The winning concept will be chosen by July 30, 2017, and the winning artist must submit the final work by Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and recognition as the Official Poster Artist for the festival year, half will be paid at the time the original work has been delivered and half after the artist has completed his or her commitment to sign posters and appear at key festival events. The winner will be required to attend key festival events as an honored guest, at the poster reveal party on October 20, 2017 and the Grand Tasting on April 15, 2018 for the purpose of signing official posters. The original work will be sold during the festival, and with all proceeds to benefit the Marion Cultural Alliance, supporting arts in Ocala and Marion County, Florida. The artist will receive twelve (12) copies of the official poster.
The applicants’ designs will be judged by the following panel: Paulette Millhorn, Marion Cultural Alliance Gallery Director; Laura Walker, Cultural Arts and Sciences Division Head; Gerry Dedenbach, MCA Board member and Vice President of CHW, Inc.; Andy Stracuzzi of Zed+Zed+Eye; Mary Britt, Executive Director of the Ocala Civic Theatre. For information about the Festival, which is scheduled for April 11-15, 2018, or to download the application to submit a concept, visit www.ocalaculinaryfestival.com. For more information about the contest, contact the Marion Cultural Alliance at [email protected] or phone 352-369-1500.
Note: One entry per artist. The winning design shall be suitable for formatting on a poster 24 x 36. Artists must agree to allow Ocala Culinary Festival to retain the copyright of the winning design.
